Hey Baby - Chia Pet
OMG I thought this was familiar:
Sassy’s in-house band was named after the Chia Pet, with various members from the editorial staff, including Jane Pratt on violin, Christina Kelly on vocals, her then-husband Robert Weeks on guitar, her then-sister-in-law (and Sassy writer) Jessica Vitkus Weeks on bass guitar, Mary Ann Marshall (also a Sassy scribe) on drums. Karen Catchpole also lent co-lead vocals to some songs.
LOOK WHAT I FOUND YOU GUYS.
Marriage: did you know that it is a patriarchal construct??
My first reblog impulse was FUCK YES don’t be “that” women’s studies teacher. My second thought was, nobody even fucking gets that marriage is a patriarchal construct. I.e. marriage equality just passed in NY. The night of the vote I was at Nowhere, a gay bar in the city, with my friend who is dating a lesbian politician. I was all “get off your blackberry / who cares about marriage.” And she was all “examine your privilege” and “are you wearing designer birkenstocks?” I mean, white birkenstocks are hardly designer. So I was all Men, Women & Rape CLASSIC FUCKING TEXT CHECK IT OUT. And she was all “you’re a self loathing hipster lesbian.” And I was all let’s get pizza.
it is true that white birkenstocks are hardly designer and also that this level of marriage rage/tevs is why jeanne is going to be the best and most appropriate bridesmaid, besides alex, who asked “do i have to wear a dress? i will.” if only i had known them during my prime marriage-hating years, when the only person who agreed with me was marisa.
